You must do your homework on the HVAC, as it can be confusing at times. Keep reading to learn more about working with your HVAC system. Take the time to read the article and you will do well.
Before an HVAC expert comes to your home to do any repair work, walk around the home and check out the temps in every room. Jot down the rooms that are hot and the ones that are cold. This will help the repairman determine what the problem is.
When spring rolls around, give the condenser fan blades and coils a good clean. Shut the power off before you do anything. Next, remove the grill, take the blades and clean them gently, then clean the actual unit.
A big mistake that people make is cutting the grass next to the outdoor condenser unit and allowing all of the clippings to blow inside the fan and coil. Get the grass shot away from your unit. Make sure you move around the unit and blow the leaves away from it while blowing your leaves.
The HVAC unit in your home can become damaged from falling leaves. Make sure you clean out your fan grill often once nearby trees start shedding their leaves. You can head off future problems that can be caused by blockages by making sure there is a free flow of air to your fan.
If the fan condenser on your unit has ports for oil, make sure you lubricate it once a year. These are usually covered with rubber or metal caps. Put about ten drops or less of a good non-detergent SAE 20 oil into each port.
One way to save some money with A/C is by having a programmable thermostat installed. These convenient thermostats may shave ten percent or more off of your bills, because they significantly cut energy use when you’re not around. In addition, some models make things really easy on you, allowing you to adjust them from the computer.
If you are going to be gone during the day or on vacation, turn the temperature up on your air conditioning unit. With the system off, the house will only heat up to a certain temperature. If it is on all day, it is trying to maintain a cool temperature constantly, using a great deal of electricity to fight the heat.
Never allow your home to get dangerously hot inside. Expect an air conditioning unit to drop the temperature down 20 degrees within a short amount of time. If you have your home at above 100 degrees then you can only get it to about 80 or above. You may suffer adverse effects from letting the house get that hot, too.
